One of the most annoying things with the stock inlets on 4150/60 carbs is having the inverted flare adapter move when removing the inverted flare nuts on the fuel lines. Yet its always awkward to get an open end wrench in place with good bite. Finally modified a 1" box wrench that I bought for this purpose at a fleamarket last year.

2003. A. Hi Jared. Black oxide is an extremely thin (millionths of an inch) oxidation product created on the surface of a steel part; it has almost no corrosion resistance but it is attractive and does not affect the dimensions of parts; so it's used on things like bored sprockets, gears, and couplings, where dimensions are critical, and on things that are lovingly maintained …

Gold-bearing gravel and dirt is shoveled into the hopper of the power sluice / high banker, which is mounted at the top end of the sluice box. Inside the hopper is a "grizzly" which is a series of sloping rods that filter out larger rocks.

There are two sections to this dredge conversion…. #1 is the video with Dean. #2 is the breakdown and pics from Ron. From Doc… I suggest you watch the → BRAND NEW VIDEO about what mats to use. Dredges have short boxes when you look at the ratio / volume of water / material being run through them.

A 3" would be a better choice. The heaviest single part of a 3" dredge is the motor, and a 3" dredge can be sufficiently powered by a 5/5.5 hp motor. A 5/5.5 hp stationary motor is a small enough size to be easily carried by one man. Larger motors can be difficult to get into remote areas … especially for one person working alone.

A nozzle works better in shallow water as it is a little bit more forgiving. should you raise it out of the water during operation. BUT, the Jet makes use of only one hose to the dredger, has better. suction, and works best in deeper water due to the lesser possibility of. the user causing cavitation.

I put a flare on my 4" dredge in place of the original crash box, made a huge difference on fines. So the header box does need to be wide to slow down the flow and allow the gold to drop out. Plus I found having the sluice and engine float is the only way to go, running the sluice on legs from the bottom of the stream bed really limits where ...

The same reason why a flare is prefered over a header box. When the material that has sorted itself in the hose on its travel from the bottom up enters the flare it is already sorted with the heavies & gold traveling slower & on the very bottom of the hose into the flare where the water velocity is reduced due to the flare & on to where they ...

The idea is to position a sluice box in a running stream so that the water does the work-- separating the dirt and rocks away from the gold. Since gold is heavy, it will stay in the bottom of the sluice, trapped in the miner's moss.

To run fines on as little as 18 gpm, you should start off with a sluice box no narrower than 8" and no wider than 10". As for length, maybe something in the 6′ to 8′ range. However, you won't be able to effectively process a ton per hour of 150 mesh material and maintain a …

accommodate the pump's nozzle size; (3) both located less than 5D from the suction nozzle. In contrast, Figure 7 illustrates an elevation (side) view of a double suction pump with two maybe not perfect, but nevertheless better, practices. Also, I notice you use header boxes as opposed to a jet flare. In this village where I am there is big gold. The jet flare moves the material through the sluice box better. But in the main river, there is much more fine gold than big gold. From my experience, the old style header box seems to catch more fine gold than the jet flare.

This compact sluice box is the hobbyist prospector's dream product. It folds down to fit into a standard 5-gallon backpack. It will also fit in most backpacks. The upstream flare is nearly 14 inches wide, concentrating the water to a 9-inch …

Getting a box "tuned" to operate properly can take time and work. Combination of the two designs is interesting (flare only the under-sluice). It's imperative to de-aerate and drop gold out of flow, not when it's built velocity moving down a fast moving dredge box. Inertia steps in and your specific gravity advantage is greatly reduced.
